Cup king Stradivarius rules supreme

Stradivarius ensured his 10th victory with a dominant display from the Magners Rose Doncaster Cup.
The remaining division has been dominated by john Gosden’s five-year-old over the past couple of seasons – with back-to-back wins in Lonsdale Cup, Gold Cup, Goodwood Cup and also the Yorkshire Cup watching him scoop the Weatherbys Hamilton Stayers’ Million in both 2019 and 2018.
In the immediate wake of his latest triumph at York, connections indicated his next port of call would be next month Long Distance Cup in Ascot – that he won last season – but a late change of heart watched Gosden fetch his charge to Town Moor.
With older foe Dee Ex Bee a late withdrawal, Stradivarius was the favourite in the hands of spouse Frankie Dettori and his legion of fans had worries for the duration of the two-and-a-quarter-mile contest.
Oisin Murphy heading out for the second circuit in an effort to inject some speed in the race sent on Andrew Balding’s Cleonte after being abandoned in front , and he was going great guns rounding the turn for home.
However, after popped the question by Dettori, Stradivarius swiftly reeled in the leader and became apparent for a comfortable one-and-three-quarter-length victory.
Cleonte boxed to meet with the spot, together using the Willie Mullins-trained Max Dynamite – runner-up to stablemate Thomas Hobson in a year’s renewal – back in third.
Gosden said:”Frankie was right to move ahead, and then Oisin determined he wanted to earn a rush of it.
“He is a beautiful horse. I had no intention of coming here, but he was so fresh, rearing up and shouting all the time, so I thought we’d come back and win the Doncaster Cup – it had not been the strategy, but Mr (Bjorn) Nielsen was very good about it.
“He is a stunning horse to train, however he was becoming so playful in the home – this is a five-day entrance so I had to put him . Should you wait around for Champions Day plus it’s thick, he will not be operating.”
He went on:”I think Mr Nielsen’s huge strategy, when the horse is happy and well, is to visit Ascot next year. He’d love to win three Gold Cups. We’ll attempt to do this if we could and we will see what’s from this Leger as potential challengers.
“He’s had a much simpler season this year compared to last. The race at the Gold Cup (last year) was mighty hard and he had been a weary horse from the Lonsdale. He’s a horse 9, this season.
“I believe the next year’s it’s Ascot Gold Cup and probably Goodwood Cup, and then we may be concerned about other choices.
“I think he’d like to get a Sagaro, Yorkshire Cup – go this path again when the horse is in fantastic arrangement, then regroup, that would be a little fun”
Dettori – again in flying dismount kind – stated :”That is the easiest he is won – he is so great to ride,” he relaxeshe quickens. Brilliant. We expected it to be similar to that, although it was a race.
“I attempted to produce the running, but because we got into the bend he had been looking at all. Oisin was operating eager and I received a tow. We went slow, so we sprinted the previous three and a half (furlongs).
“He’s got one more gear than the rest, so I used Oisin as a reference stage – that I gave him three or four spans start because I knew after I passed him he believes he has done enough.
“I used Oisin as tow to the furlong marker and ‘come on let’s place the race ‘, and he won very easily.”
Gosden had a note on his stable star, the Enable, who’s being prepared for an attempt on a half-dozen third success in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe before registering.
He said:”She’s in fantastic form. I could not be more pleased with her. She is in really good nick and we’re going to build her around the Arc now.”
