Anna Nordqvist and lexi Thompson can find another chance to do battle this month at the Solheim Cup, two years on from making one of their most memorable contests in the tournament’s history.
Team USA arrive in Gleneagles as two-time defending champions after following their 2015 success using a 16.5-11.5 triumph in Iowa at 2017, in which Thompson and Nordqvist’s singles game lit up the final round.
The leading player of europe lived up to expectations that were pre-match with the duo heading on to discuss the spoils, because the opening game of the afternoon.
Thompson fought on the greens as Nordqvist birdied her opening four holes with American captain Juli Inkster coming out to attempt to provide some support, race four ahead.
The lead stayed four in the turn after a concession in the ninth canceled out Thompson’s two-putt birdie in the minute, by following a birdie at the 10th with a eagle in the second, only for her to kickstart her fightback.
Thompson abandoned a tap-in birdie at the par-three next at the 13th and matched Nordqvist’s two, before renovating a 20-foot shot and picking up the next shot at the second to return ahead.
Neither player was able to get a shot at the 17th to depart knock at the birdie to grab a share of the spoils and Thompson going for Nordqvist, just in the last having a lead to flame approach to five feet.
